Is Addiction a Disease?

Pseudo-science and Bible-thumping, the worst of both worlds: The problem with rehab, AA and calling addiction a disease

Found this article schlepping around on Salon.com this afternoon. Psychologist and neuroscientist  Mark Lewis is interviewed about his book “The Biology of Desire: Why Addiction Is Not a Disease” in this article. There are probably people on both sides of this debated issue and some on the fence (the debate fence). Anyhoo, I haven’t read the book but I thought the article was interesting.

    1. No worries, I understood what you meant! And yes, on an individual level that’s true for all addicts– they just just need to stop their addictive behavior. This author is posing that certain and most often prescribed methods that support addiction rehab are less effective due to their lack of basis in science and their dependence on medication. I think that’s an interesting challenge.
