B&A- As Promised

Okay, as promised in my last post, here are the before and after pics of my birthdays for 2014 and 2015.

I’m actually horrified to post the “before” but what the hell…

Here I am on my 45th birthday last year, holding a glass of happy hour varietal blend (what else??) and some gelato (I still remember that gelato, it was chocolate orange…memories…):

I actually untagged myself from that one in my husband’s Facebook album. I was US size 12, hurtling on towards 14. What’s startling about this picture is how LARGE MY FACE IS. OMG.

And here I am on my 46th birthday, exactly one year later, 6 months sober:

To my surprise, I was able to *easily* put on a pair of skinny cargos that I got at Old Navy in 2011. They are size 8 and they have NEVER FIT ME until now. I’m not actually certain that they are still remotely “in style” after all this time in my drawer (but couldn’t be too badly anachronistic as my 16-yo complimented me on them sooo….)

So there ya go. If you don’t believe quitting drinking can change not only your life but your ACTUAL APPEARANCE, then hopefully this is proof.

Thanks again to everyone who sent me well wishes for m’bday. It really meant a lot to me.

Now I’m home, and it’s only 7pm. I’ve had a least 4 people ask me “what are you doing tonight?” and I was like, “Um, turning 46??” I already left the house to go to the gym and then the pizza place, WHAT MORE DO THEY WANT FROM ME???

Fun note about bday party: my husband told me that while he was trying to order four large pizzas for the table, his dad practically knocked him over to get up there and order a pitcher of beer for him and my MIL. My SIL and BIL did the same (only more politely), then announced (after asking me what fun thing I was going to do next which would SURELY INVOLVE A LOT OF ALCOHOL even thought I’ve told my SIL three times that we quit drinking BUT OF COURSE I DIGRESS) that they were off to the liquor store. So they’ll be celebrating my bday tonight, in my honor and absence, probably til it hurts. Hahahahh!!

  1. I love the fact that others drank on your behalf…well, I don’t actually love it, but I’m glad it wasn’t you. My birthday’s this Thursday (42) and I’m usually drunk two days before, the day and night of, and the days after. Not this time.

    1. I’m pretty sure the drinking was going to happen with or without my birthday;)
      Happy early bday to you! Nope, not this time. I must say that I do have to be careful to not get all jacked up on caffeine and sugar, I tend to swill a lot of soft drinks during these occasions.

  2. Holly Moly woman! You look super amazing. You know just by looking at the difference makes me want to quit drinking forever and ever. And I have to admit that I love the blonde color on you much better. 🙂 You look so so great. Now… please tell me what you do at the gym?

    1. Thanks, TATB! The hair color is ever changing, but I had been doing the auburn for several years just because it was easy. But I figured I’m worth the cost of a salon every 6 weeks.
      Okay, gym: so lately we (I go with my spouse) started doing 10-20 minutes of cardio first- like stationary bike, elliptical, treadmill, etc. Then we do about 12 sets on weight machines. Usually we do one body part, like arms, shoulders, chest, etc. I’ll email you specifics, if you’d like:)

Now I’m all UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL, you know, the way teens like it. hahahhaha!! What’s up? Where ya going? Where ya been? Are you dating that boy? Are his parents nice?

    1. Thank ya KS! Hahah! Spill it! To be honest, I did lose about 10 lbs the first 3 mos after I quit drinking because I was SMOKING LIKE A CHIMNEY and not eating much at all. Hahaha! I try to limit carbs like rice and bread, almost never eat pasta or pizza, and when I go out to eat I order whatever I want and eat half of it. 🙂 Not sure if that’s a diet but it works for me! Also I do a gym workout.
